June 12/08 Destination Canada, which markets Canada primarily in the Nordic countries, has now published their top 7 water adventures in Canada. At the top of the list is Kayaking in British Columbia's Gulf Islands and Inside Passage. With 1/3 of the fresh water on the planet, one of the world's longest coastlines and the world's longest inland waterway - it's natural that Canada should have so much to offer in the way of wet adventure. According to Destination Canada's manager, Arne Bruheim, trying to whittle all the possible water/paddling adventures in Canada down to 7 was a big task and being able to award only one top spot even more difficult. Here is Destination Canada's reasoning for giving Kayaking in the Gulf Islands and the Inside Passage the no. 1 spot: "The inner coastal region between Vancouver Island and mainland British Columbia is vast and stunningly beautiful with a treasure chest of coves, islands, inlets and fjords. The area's diverse geography, cultures, climate and wildlife provide a unique kayaking experience. The chance of viewing orcas, humpback and minke whales during the summer months is very high and, in addition to the abundance of marine wildlife, the area also offers a rich coastal culture with many small historical communities dotting the shorelines".
