Resort Slated for Vancouver Island to Source Power From Nature PDF Print E-mail

The "greenest" resort in Canada is being planned for construction on the west coast of Vancouver Island, on 150 hectares of land near Ucluelet.

Aptly named the Wyndansea (wind and sea), the new property is to be built so that it uses the wind and tides to provide some of the resort's power requirements.

The Wyndansea Ocean Front Golf Resort will have 175 rooms and will have 5.6 km. of coastline adjacent to a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course. It will also have a high-end residential component, with 30 lots set aside for building those homes.

But the most innovative aspect of the resort will be its green sources of online power. These include a seawater geo-thermal exchange, and systems for using tidal and wind power. As well, local/regional materials will be used for the construction of resort, which may result in an on-site rock quarry, an on-site cement plant and the use of local stone and wood for finishing work.

The resort is expected to break ground in the late fall of this year.
